Creation: Hymns from the Vedas

This eleven-minute film describing the Creation of the Universe contains the words of Sathya Sai Baba and selected verses from the Vedas, including the Rig Veda, the Atharva Veda, and the later Upanisads. As each verse is sung, it appears on screen in Sanskrit, an ancient Indian language, and is followed by its spoken English translation.

Some historians have stated that the Rig Veda originated in India over 8,000 years ago, dating to at least 6,500 BCE. Their research has led them to believe this date is accurate as certain hymns contain references to astrological configurations observed in the heavens at that time. Most historians agree that the Rig Veda is the oldest human document known to man, pre-dating the first known appearance of writing around 3,400 BCE, and pre-dating the Bible by almost 5,000 years. Prior to, and even after the birth of writing, the Vedas were passed from generation to generation orally. Many scholars have speculated that for several thousand years, there was nothing more important in the life of a young man than learning the Vedas from his father.

This film was created by Gene Massey and currently plays daily to over three thousand people at the Chaitanya Jyoti Millennium Museum at Prasanthi Nilayam, Puttaparthi, India
